Positive Behaviour for Learning

What is PBL?

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) is a whole school approach to proactive, school wide behaviour management. PBL is a vehicle for establishing a positive school culture. Based on research and evidence-based practices, it provides strategies for all students to increase academic performance, improve safety and decrease problem behaviour.

At Woy Woy Public School we have developed 3 School wide expectations to support the PBL process. These expectations are Be Responsible, Be Respectful and Be Engaged. It is hoped that the students of Woy Woy Public School will strive to demonstrate these values everyday, both in the classroom and the playground.

We explicitly teach the positive behaviour we expect every week and reward the students who have demonstrated positive behaviour with Win Bin tickets. Student can place their Win Bin tickets into the barrel to enter the weekly prize draw, or they can choose to stockpile their tickets and exchange their accumulated tickets for a reward.

Students who display positive behaviours in the classroom and the playground are rewarded with a star on their Star Chart at the end of each week. When students have received their first 9 stars they are presented with their Green Award and when they have attained 18 stars they are presented with their Bronze Award. 27 stars sees students presented with their Silver Award. These students who are able to achieve 36 stars over the course of the year are presented with their Gold Award for 'outstanding' behaviour. In addition to the Green, Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards, students who receive 8 out of 10 stars over the course of each individual term, receive an end-of-term PBL reward, for example tokens to be redeemed for sips, pikelets or pieces of garlic bread from the canteen, or tokens enabling them to access books, iPad's or computers during class time.
