Woy Woy Public School has 6 Special Education classes within the mainstream setting – Early Intervention (EI), Autism (AU), a mild intellectual class (IM), a moderate/severe intellectual class (IO/IS), Junior and Senior emotional disturbance (ED) classes. Placement in these classes is decided at a selection panel through the Department of Education and Communities Gosford Office.
Each class has a Teacher and School Learning Support Officer (SLSO) to assist in the classroom. Class numbers vary across the settings – up to 20 students in Early Intervention, 7 in Autism, Junior and Senior ED, 10 in the Moderate to Severe class and 18 in the mild intellectual class.
All students in the support classes work from an Individual Learning Plan based on ability levels across several domains – academic, social and behaviour. Students are integrated into mainstream activities within the school where appropriate.
