The IO/IS class caters for students diagnosed with a moderate to severe intellectual disability. The class consists of ten students who are supported by a Teacher and School Learning Support Officer (SLSO). Students work from Individual Learning plans that are designed in consultation with parents and relevant therapists.
Leisure and life skills play an integral role in student learning, with the aim of promoting independence and social skills. Students participate in weekly cooking lessons and shop for the ingredients at the local supermarket. The class also participates in Riding for the Disabled, gymnastics and swimming throughout the year.
Where appropriate, students integrate into mainstream classes for particular subjects in order to foster friendships with mainstream peers. The class also participates in the International Day for People with a Disability through a concert performance for the school community.
